General rules

ARTICLE 1. DATES

The fifteenth edition of Les Arcs Film Festival will be held from December 16th to 23trd 2023 at Bourg Saint Maurice – Les Arcs in Savoy, France.

ARTICLE 2. GOALS OF LES ARCS FILM FESTIVAL

Les Arcs European Film Festival aims to promote the diversity of European cinema, to take part in the distribution and circulation of European films in Europe and to encourage professional meetings.

ARTICLE 3. CRITERIA OF FILM SELECTION

Films need to meet the following criteria in order to participate in the selection process for the Official Competition of Les Arcs Film Festival:

ARTICLE 4. SELECTION

The selection committee is responsible for selecting all the films screened during Les Arcs Film Festival.

ARTICLE 5. PRESELECTION

The films are either preselected by the festival, or spontaneously sent by their director or producer. The deadline is set at August 25th 2023 (for the return of the registration form to the Festival’s Film Office). The registration form must be filled in and accompanied by the requested additional materials.

For the pre-selection of films, a “viewing link” or a digital format must be provided, with French or English subtitles if a language other than English or French is spoken.

The Festival guarantees that the support provided will be used for selection purposes only. The Festival will not be held responsible if the sent material is lost, stolen, damaged, destroyed or illegally copied.

ARTICLE 6. SELECTED FILMS

All additional documents for the selected films, registered or requested by the festival, must arrive at the Film Office before November 6th 2023, for publication in the catalogue. The following elements need to be provided: a physical device of the film with French or English subtitles / a list of subtitles in digital format / photos of the film director / film extracts (digital file) that may be broadcasted during or after the festival, with a specific authorization from the producer.

For the official screening a DCP must be provided. Only prints in a perfect state of projection will be accepted and must bear French or English subtitles if the spoken language is neither French nor English. If needed, digital files with French and English subtitles must also be sent to the Festival for digital subtitling.

ARTICLE 7. PROMOTION

To ensure the best promotion of the selected films, stills and 3-minute extracts will be asked and will be published on the website of our Festival and on those of its partners, for a limitless period of time. The Festival’s press agents are likely to hand over photos from the selected films to the media, for regional, national and international communication purposes.

ARTICLE 8. SCREENING RIGHTS

The film selected for the Official Competition will be available free of charge throughout the Festival, and further reruns, screenings and rental rights included.

In exchange, the Festival will provide invitations for the film crews (further details will be provided in the personal official invitations).

Our partnership with Festivalscope will allow you to upload your selected film in our video-library hosted by the platform. The access will be restricted in time (December 5th 2023 – January 10th 2024) and number of spectators (only our professional participants have access to the video-library). The Festival team will send you an authorization letter.

ARTICLE 9. JURY

The Festival will assign juries who will bestow the awards.

ARTICLE 10. AWARD ENDOWMENT

The names and endowments for the awards in the Official Competition will be announced in due time.

ARTICLE 11. OTHER SCREENINGS

Some of the films from the Festival’s programme, the winners in particular, are likely to be scheduled in reruns during the weeks following the Festival and also during a special event organised in Paris. The dates for these screenings will be communicated at a later date and specific demands will be expressed to the rights’ owners.

ARTICLE 12. ADVERTISMENT

All feature films selected in our Official Selection commit to show the Festival’s logo on all advertising material according to the Festival’s graphic chart.

The awarded movies must show on all advertising material the award(s) won during the Festival (Crystal Arrow, Grand Prize of the Jury, Best Actor / Actress Prize, Prize for the Best Music, for the Best Cinematography, Audience Choice, Youth Jury, Press and Cineuropa Prizes).

ARTICLE 13. RESPONSIBILITIES

The Festival reserves the right to use the information provided in the registration forms in accordance with the Law No. 78-17, 6th of January 1978, on “Informatics and Freedom”.

According to this law, every participant has the right to access and modify all personal data concerning him or her. The Festival will not be held responsible in case of damaged reception or non-reception of the submitted material, no matter what means of transmission is used and the reason for the problem.

The Festival reserves the right to interrupt, cancel or postpone the Festival and also change the present regulations at any time according to its needs. No compensation whatsoever will be due to the participants.

ARTICLE 14. INSURANCE

The Festival will insure the physical support for the selected films only during the Festival and on the premises of the Festival. In case of damage, no claim will be taken into account one month after the returns of the print to the sender.

Should a print be damaged or lost, the Festival’s responsibility can be engaged up to 750 Euros.

ARTICLE 15. ASSIGNMENT OF JURISDICTION

Participation in the Festival means unreserved acceptance of the present regulations. In case of incoherence between the French and the English regulation, the French version is the authentic one.

ARTICLE 16. UNFORESEEN CASES

The board of directors of the association Révélations culturelles, which organises Les Arcs European Film Festival has the power to settle all matters not covered by the present regulations.
